For any further information, we invite you to contact our Soncino office directly.
Death at home
If the death occurs at home, it is advisable not to proceed immediately with dressing and preparing the body, as these operations, for sanitary reasons, should be carried out by the specialised staff of the agency. This staff can also perform thanato-aesthetic treatments and, if necessary, transfer the body to the Funeral Home.
The relatives of the deceased must contact the attending doctor for the completion of the necessary documents, which will then be issued by the agency’s staff and are required for filling in the ISTAT form and the death notice.
The death must be reported to the Civil Registry Office of the municipality where it occurred. This office will then notify the Health Office, which will send a medical examiner to officially confirm the death.
Death not at home
In the event of a death occurring in a hospital or care home, it is the responsibility of the medical administration to issue the ISTAT form and the death notice. The relatives should then go to the funeral agency and decide whether to leave the body where it is or transfer it to the Funeral Home.
If the death occurs abroad, the relatives must promptly notify the Italian Consulate General or Embassy in order to obtain authorisation for the repatriation of the body.
In such cases as well, it is necessary to contact a funeral agency, which will take care of all the formalities in the country where the death occurred, as well as the repatriation of the body using the means chosen by the family.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to receive further useful information in the event of a death.
